25 Things I’ve learned in 25 years

Just over a month ago I celebrated my 25th birthday! Now thinking about it, i really can’t believe i’m officially a quarter of a century years old. Gone are the days where i could say phrases like, ‘i’m just a kid’ or ‘Leave me alone, i’m only little!’ (Well tbh i am only 5ft something, so we’ll continue rinsing this phrase unless by some miracle i receive a quarter life growth spurt!)

Anyways, we’re officially grown over here! In celebration of reaching this milestone, i thought it would be great to reflect on my journey thus far and share some nuggets of wisdom with my fellow young grasshoppers. Whatever stage you are at in your journey, i believe its so important to reflect on how far you have come, recognise all achievements made and take the time to set new goals in place for yourself. As you grow, you will encounter new experiences which will impact your overall perception on life. You will be tested, but ultimately it comes down to your ability to adapt/embrace change.

Now, i’m not saying I’ve got this thing called ‘life’ solved…but here are a few lessons that I’ve learned along the way:

‘Life is not happening to you, its happening because of you’ – However you’re feeling, at this present moment know that all things are happening as a result of the actions you have taken. It sounds crazy but, we have the power to attract certain situations into our lives, be it good or bad. Which takes me onto my next point…

The Law of Attraction – If you haven’t read ‘The Secret’ what are you really doing with your life? This book has honestly changed my perception on life and the decisions I make. Knowing about the Law of Attraction has been a game changer, opening the door for me to practice positive thinking, affirmations etc. To put it simply, the universe responds to the energy and vibes that we put out. Read the book, and tell me if i’m over hyping lol

No matter what, get up, dress up, show up’ – I love this quote, its such a great attitude to have. Even in those dark moments, its important to pick yourself up and carry on. If I am struggling to stay motivated, I often remind myself of how proud/accomplished I will feel after completing a task…this drives me to get the job done!

Let go and Let God/ Don’t be afraid to ask for help/Communication is key– How many of us are culprits of trying to take everything on by ourselves? Sometimes, I forget to share the load due to my own preference on how I’d like things done. There’s nothing wrong with being independent, but it’s ok to ask for help every now and again…in fact it shows great strength. Whether you believe in God, the power of the universe etc…having a safe place or someone to lean on when you need help is important.

Self Love is everything! – The theme of my life right now and forever more! I can’t stress enough how important it is to practise self love and care. The older I get, the more I realise its ok to carve the time out for myself too. You need it. Self love is vital for your self esteem, self worth, values…the list is endless. Learning to love myself more is one of the best decisions I have made in my adult life. It has given me the ability to recognise my abilities and how I deserve to be treated.

Take some time to relax/Balance – Life can be pretty stressful at times. It is important to take a moment to relax in order to regenerate your energy.

Don’t take your loved ones for granted – I’ve had my fair share of losses over the year and one thing I can honestly advise, appreciate your loved ones whilst they are still here. Never take people for granted as no one is promised tomorrow.

Exercise – Guess who’s just signed up for a gym membership for  the thousandth time!! On a serious note, I am excited/ determined to stay on track with my fitness journey. For me, its more about staying healthy as apposed to loosing weight.

Drink plenty of water – Pretty self explanatory. I’m guilty of not drinking enough of the stuff, but I am making more of a conscious effort!

Practise Gratitude – For me, practising gratitude falls in line with the Law of Attraction. Its so easy to get caught up in a negative mind space, focusing on the things we don’t have. However, practising gratitude opens the door for greater blessings, more opportunities.

Compare yourself to NO ONE/Be confident/Protect your energy- In todays society, it is so easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. The pressures of social media and its influence is at an all time high! The older I get, the more I have learnt to be comfortable in my own skin. I am more conscience of what I allow into my environment and make it my mission to protect my energy. This also falls under self love as the more you love yourself, the less you will feel the need to compare yourselves to others. We all have our own things going for us, be happy for others, and focus on getting yours!

Travel – A few years ago, I made it one of my goals to travel more. I love getting the  opportunity to experience a new environment and the cultures that come with it. This year I hope to add to my list…next up….Greece!!

Laugh Often/Nothing is worth stressing over – In life, I believe there is a certain turning point where you come to realise what’s truly important. Stressing over little things just isn’t worth it. At the end of the day, all you can do is work hard and apply yourself in order to achieve your dreams. We have to accept that things will happen out of our control, just be sure to laugh often and embrace life’s journey every step of the way.

Do it Afraid/Challenge yourself/Embrace change – Sometimes, we have to push ourselves out of our comfort zone in order to achieve the life of our dreams. I’m rarely prepared for a change, but when it comes I have to choose whether to embrace it or choose the easy option and run away. In the face of adversity, you have to decide whether you are willing to go through the hard times and come out the other end a stronger, more experienced person. I often find that by taking on challenging tasks and ‘doing it afraid’ I feel a greater sense of accomplishment.

Stop procrastinating/Be Consistent –  Aaah procrastination…one of life’s biggest time wasters. I’m still guilty of this one, not going to lie- but I am making a conscious effort to be more consistent and procrastinate less. ‘Say what you mean and mean what you say’.

LIVE!!! – Life is for living, embracing new experiences and creating great memories along the way. At the end of the day, we only get once chance at this thing (unless you believe in reincarnation, do you) may as well have fun whilst doing it. Live your best life!!
